No longer the right time for Bernardo to depart City – Silva’s father

Bernardo Silva has been linked with a move to the Blaugrana in the summer transfer window, but his father talked about the reason behind him staying at Manchester City.

Bernardo Silva

was said to be on the verge of departing

Manchester City

, but his move did not materialize as it was "no longer the right time" when a "concrete offer" was made, according to his father Paulo.

The Portuguese was linked with a move out of the club this summer, with

Barcelona

eager to acquire his services.

However, Silva remained put with Pep Guardiola’s side, but revealed that there was a late offer for him from an unnamed club.

Silva also suggested that Guardiola’s side were not able to find a replacement as the transfer window was closing.

"There [were] a lot of conversations but not really a concrete offer in time that we thought could be made,"

Paulo Silva told Stats Perform at the FPF Football Talks 2022 in Lisbon.

"By the time these offers started to emerge, we realised that it was no longer the right time for everyone. If things were to happen, they would have happened rationally.

"So, it wasn't the ideal scenario for Bernardo when he's 28. He is a mature player. He still has time to give to football to learn and grow further. Things have to be done with rationality and not emotionality."

Silva has met the back of the net twice and contributed two assists this season, helping his side stay unbeaten as they are keen on defending their title.
