Guardiola provides Haaland injury update ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola refused to rule out Erling Haaland from the Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday.

Haaland who scored eight goals in his two games ahead of the international break, withdrew from Norway's squad through injury and has not trained with City in recent days.

In his press conference on Friday, Pep Guardiola said Man City will decide about Haaland after their final training session today before their match against Liverpool on Saturday. Man City is eight points below Premier League leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.

He said:

"We’ll see this afternoon at 4pm. We’ll see how does he feel.  At the end, the doctors and the player will decide how he feels... I spoke with him, he feels good. We will see. Life is risk in these stages, we have to take it.”

He added:

"We have scored a lot of goals this season, and he's scored an incredible amount of goals, but in the past we also scored a lot of goals.

"Since we were here, and with Roberto Mancini and [Manuel] Pellegrini, always Man City was a team that scored a lot of goals in the season – with different players, different strikers.

"They scored a lot of goals, which is what we will try to do until the end of the season."

Phil Foden could also be sidelined for around two or three weeks after recently having surgery.

"The doctors tell me two or three weeks. We’ll see how his development about his appendicitis surgery,"

he added.

Guardiola also said Liverpool remains an exceptional team in his opinion, despite their struggles this season.

"We know each other for many years, the same manager many years. One more.

"They remain an exceptional team. My opinion doesn’t chance for a season of ups and downs. Every team during one season can have these up and downs.

"Nothing changes, there is another rival this season… but in the future they will always be a big rival."
