Manchester City 4-1 Liverpool: No Haaland, no problem as Guardiola's side thrash Reds

Manchester City kept pressure on Arsenal in the title race with a sensational win against Liverpool.

Manchester City was without the injured Erling Haaland but managed to beat Liverpool 4-1 in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Man City now is five points behind Arsenal in the table after 28 matches, but Arteta's side can go eight points clear if they beat Leeds United later on Saturday.

Salah scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute. Jota received Alexander-Arnold’s long ball behind City’s defense. He blocked Akanji, so Salah can have a free run onto the ball, and he put it past Ederson.

Mahrez had a great chance to score for City on the edge of the box in the 24th minute, but his powerful strike went over the bar.

Julian Alvarez equalized for City in the 27th minute. City quickly sent the ball to Grealish in space after good work from Mahrez and Gundogan. Grealish send his low cross into the middle with his first touch and Alvarez tapped it past Alisson.

City scored again at the start of the second half. Alvarez sent the ball to Mahrez and Robertson could not get close to him. He played a cross into the box, and Alisson could not stop it from reaching De Bruyne in front of the goal.

Gundogan scored the third goal for City in the 53rd minute. Alvarez’s first shot was blocked, but the ball reached Gundogan in a pocket of space in the box, and he fired it into the near post.

Grealish managed to finally score in the 74th minute. He played a one-two with De Bruyne, which opened up the space for him to run into the box. He sent De Bruyne’s cross past Alisson with a low strike. Grealish came close to scoring a few minutes later, but Alisson saved his volley.
